Pillai Institute of Information Technology, Engineering, Media Studies and Research (PIIT), New Panvel won the University of Mumbai (Zone-IV) Chess Title held at JSM College, Alibaug on 3rd August, 2013. A total of 16 teams participated in the league format tournament, where a confident Pillai Engineering team over powered Malsha College (4-0) in the opening match. In the semi-finals they beat a star studded CKT College (2.5-1.5) and entered in to the finals. In the deciding match they beat MGM Collage (3-1).

Team led by Yogesh Kene a first year ME student, made exceptionally well throughout the tourney with 4 out of 4 wins. Aditya Singh also shine with the same performance, Kanad Kalsure, Aditya Nair and Unnikrishanan also put up their best performance for the final glory of the team. Earlier in the day Dr. Uttam Kendre, Director, Physical Education and Sports, University of Mumbai inaugurated the tournament in the presence of Advocate Gautam Patil, Vice President of Janata Shikshan Sanstha, Alibaug.
